Garrard Tutoring offers college-level math tutoring designed to be approachable for students of all ability levels, taught by an experienced tutor with a master's degree in mathematics. My tutoring philosophy centers on helping students achieve genuine understanding of subject matter rather than rote memorization of formulas. I find that math becomes much easier when the ideas behind the formulas make sense. My goal isn't simply to help students get through their homework, but to help them develop an understanding they can carry into the next assignment, exam, or course. Most undergraduate math courses are available for tutoring, including calculus I-III, differential equations, linear algebra, and proofs. A non-exhaustive list of subjects can be found here. For more information about me and my background, feel free to take a look at my bio page.
Is Garrard Tutoring Right for Me?
Students come to tutoring for many reasons. I work with students who:
Are struggling with a course and looking to rebuild their foundation
Feel confident in their abilities, but are struggling with a particular topic
Are preparing for an upcoming exam
Are working through a difficult homework or problem set and want help learning the relevant concepts
Are looking to strengthen their mathematical foundation in preparation for an upcoming course
Are interested in going beyond their current material and just exploring what's beyond their current course
Already have a solid understanding, but want to bump themselves up from a B+ to an A
Feel overwhelmed by test anxiety and want help with study strategies
